Gmail can now write your emails for you. Well, sort of: a new AI feature recognizes when you’re using a common phrases, and you can auto-complete them by pressing tab.

It’s one of the coolest things announced at Google IO, and it’s live right now. In our tests the feature is occasionally useful without being overzealous, but don’t take our word for it: try it out yourself.

First enable the new Gmail, if you haven’t already. Next head to the General tab of your Gmail settings. Look for and enable the Experimental Access option and check it:

You should see the new Smart Compose section in this same General tab.

Don’t see either of these options? Taylor Kerns, writing for Android Police, points out that disabling and re-enabling the new Gmail seems to help. That worked for us, so give it shot if you get stuck.
