Facebook is killing Friend List Feeds, which let you browse custom news feeds from curated lists of friends.

The feature, copied from Google+ back before Google+ was completely irrelevant, made Facebook customizable in a way that apparently very few people were interested in.

To be clear, Facebook is not killing off Lists completely—just the custom news feeds. Here’s a Facebook spokesperson, talking to Sarah Perez at Tech Crunch:

While people won’t be able to view custom feeds from lists of friends, they’ll still be able to create and edit friends lists, and share just to these audiences whenever they post to Facebook. In addition to these options, they can also keep customizing News Feed by visiting News Feed preferences to choose which posts they want to see first, or hide posts they don’t want to see.

I understand it will always be a small minority of users who tweak sites like Facebook to work just right, but it’s nice to have the option. Google+ prompted Facebook to offer such an option, briefly, and for that reason alone I’m glad it existed. I’m sad to see such a feature disappear entirely, even if hardly anyone used it.
